Oh and Bowulf, I know that the formulas below are what is given to us. But if your body has a bad reaction and your liver cannot take it then lower and then again add vegetables. More lentils.
All these guys on T.V with big muscles pushing others to eat protein in sources of chicken are not right. After doing some of these diets myself I came to understand why Dr. Atkins died of a heart attack.
Also, please keep in your cholesterol levels in mind. Then you will have to go with lentils and more of vegetarian sources of protein rather than meat and fish.

That’s a great question. There’s a general formula of lbs divided by 2.2 = KG and then KG times ( 0.8 – 1.5) is the amount of protein in G. If you’re healing from an injury or if you’re really rocking it in the gym, you go with 1.5. Otherwise go with 0.8 or 1 (I like easy math.) If you go much beyond 1.5 you put a load on the kidneys, and the liver, you will have bowel movements the size of Maine and you won’t accelerate how much mass you put on anyway. That’s just IMHO.
I have used the numbers tossed around on athletic forums and studies that 1.2-1.6g for athletic adult per kilogram of weight. That is about 120-160g of protein per day for me to rebuild / repair muscles and other tissues. Do you think that is too high? Another calculation I have seen is 1-1.2 per POUND of lean body mass.
Certainly, too much protein is counter-productive as it turns to carbs or becomes a waste product. Where do you set your limits?
