Five A Day May Keep The Doctor Away!



Fruits and Veggies are like wonder drugs. Eating 5 servings a day will keep you looking healthy and of course, looking and feeling great.

Just like Mom always said, “Eat all your veggies”.

When we stuff all that junk, canned goods and other packaged food, into our mouths, we are filling our body with foods low in nutrients and likely full of very bad stuff. It is so easy to open up a wrapper, nuke it and cook it. The problem is this stuff is not helping us out on the health side.

When we consume 5 servings of fruits and veggies we are helping to prevent some of those terrible diseases that come with aging such as Alzheimer’s, stroke and heart disease, to name a few. Sure, you still may still have these problems in the future but your chances of having these problems are reduced when you at least try to prevent them!

Fruits and vegetables are full of rich antioxidants, many other rich nutrients, and vitamins our body needs to stay healthy, strong, and feeling young.

You can do this! Everytime you stick something in your mouth, be sure to include a serving of fruit or veggies. Aim to get 5 to 10 serving of fruits and veggies each and every day.

    Vegetarian Lasagna – great way to get your veggies

    In a pot put:

    1 can diced tomatoes (herbed or non herbed) (low sodium)
    1 can crushed tomatoes
    1 can diced black olives
    2 small zucchini diced (they are on sale at Superstore this week, Main Street location)
    1 small bunch of asparagus chopped
    1 small package of mushrooms sliced
    2 cups of baby spinach
    1 small onion chopped
    5 TSP Oregano
    5 TSP Basil
    2 TSP Sage
    Pepper to taste

    Simmer for about 15 minutes

    Cook your lasagna noodles – whole wheat preferred

    Shred half a block of skim mozzarella and 1 cup of cheddar low fat

    Peel and slice one eggplant

    In the casserole dish prepare ingredients as follows

    Noodles
    Eggplant
    Sauce
    Cheese
    Noodles
    Eggplant
    Sauce
    Cheese
    Repeat as needed

    9 X 13 casserole dish
    Cook for 30-40 min at 350
